J Look Magazine and Walkerhill August 2012

Here are two new editorials that came out this week which were shot my first weekend in Seoul. Hope you enjoy!

Summer Lovin and the Olympic Spirit

After vigorously searching the web Saturday morning trying to find the London Olympic Opening Ceremony, hailing nothing that hadn't already been deleted due to copyright reasons, etc etc.. Morwenna and I searched again in the afternoon and, success, 4 hours of coverage! We were excited little kids watching everything. We did also learn some new things, such as countries we hadn't yet heard of and various olympic trivia. The Brits did an excellent job with the Opening Ceremony and I'm proud to live there, and also to be Canadian, a former colony.

The other two girls and I went out saturday for a bit as there was a "guys dress as girls, girls dress as guys" party. We didn't stay too long, but I was definitely happy to be putting my menswear inspired clothing to use.

The weekend was rather quiet other wise spent mostly lazing around and walking around our neighborhood, after previously doing something touristy the past weekends it was nice to just CHILL. With a bit of self pampering while watching the 90s film Clueless.

This week has brought me more good fortune with the news coming on tuesday that I was to shoot another Korean clothing campaign which I shot yesterday. It was great fun and the photographer spoke perfect english, which made things run a lot smoother than they could have. It was lovely arriving on set to trays of fresh fruit and pastries which aren't common to have on set, unlike in Europe. Also, to find out I would only be shooting 11 looks, only a quarter the amount I had to shoot for the campaign last week! woo hoo!

Noblesse

Here is an editorial I did the day after arriving in Seoul, 2 weeks later and voila! I love how quickly things come out here as in Europe you sometimes wait 3-4 months to see the results of your work.  This was a Tods advertorial shot for Noblesse magazine.

Fun and the Sun

Monsoon season has officially ended here in Seoul, and man is it hot and humid. Now I realise why there are so many Korean women walking around with umbrellas to block out the sun, I may have to pick up that habit.. Until that begins I will stick lathering myself in sunblock and trying to stay in the shade.

This week has been great. Wednesday I shot my first clothing campaign here in Seoul, it was for a brand named MOGG. My call time was 1pm and it wasn't a great start as the stylist was convinced I had changed my hair since the casting, but after a few tweaks and compromise between makeup and hair stylist all was well. But what I thought may be an easy day, wasn't, 40 beautiful looks later, we finished at 10pm. The second half of the day was lots of fun as everyone on set became more open and personalities appeared. I was super happy at the end of the shoot as the stylist gave me a pair of shoes I had liked as a 'thank you' gift.

Yesterday was filled with castings but it was nice being driven around by the head booker and being shown some sights and constant jokes between all of us. Reminiscing about the first time I was in Seoul 3 years ago.

However, today was definitely the best day I have had in a long time. It started off with my usual trip to the gym, then at noon me and two of the girls went to get pedicures and a manicure. Laura went for the mani and Morwenna and I both went for the pedis. The dilemma, however, was which color of nail varnish did we want. After much deliberation I went for gold glitter, Morwenna chose pink glitter and Laura had her hands done neon pink. I don't think I will ever be able to do 'natural' nails again.

After getting our nails done Morwenna who is a photographer as well took as to the beautiful temple to do some shots. It was amazing seeing her at work and the pictures look stunning and hopefully I can show them soon. Now to say goodbye to the dear friend Laura that we've made, we are going to have some yummy korean bbq and hit the dance floor for a bit.

HAPPY WEEKEND EVERYONE!

Ps. Everyone remember to enjoy the Olympics in London and try to remain calm with public transportation.

Week Two and Winning

Well Well Well...

Things here in Seoul have been going super well. This past week was a bit slow with castings but it's given me a chance to work on some of the bracelets I make (pictures to come later this week) and to do some touristy things, oh, and fitness classes at the gym.

Yesterday the girls and I went to a traditional Korean village which I had visited on my last trip, its such a serene area and the contrast between the bustling metropolitan Seoul are unbelievable. The traditional village is filled with several houses as well as different activities to show what past traditional life was like. However, it isn't the "artifacts" that grab my attention there, it's the peace and serenity.

The four of us girls had a wonderful time just walking around, then decided to head to the tourist shopping area of Myeondong for some lunch and browsing. The other draw of heading there was for the Japanese style photo booth.

the finished result
I'm used to living on my own, so it's a different feeling being in a flat filled with 3-4 other girls. But, thank goodness my agency here in Seoul, DCM is very particular about which girls are in town at the same time, they want to make sure that we will all be able to get along, they do their best to ensure that girls aren't from the same countries so that a sense of solidarity doesn't develop too strongly. Right now we are a mix of Canadian, English and Spanish. The 4 of us were talking the other night about how although we all come from different backgrounds, we are able to all get along. We all found this refreshing and lent it to how we were raised. Thank you Moms and Dads!

That is all for now but there will be some more updates later in the week...

Week two of Seoul...

Well well well.

This seems like a perfect opportunity to write my second post as I am completely dead. Why you ask? Because my flatmate and I just did a class called "Body Pump" at the gym. From my last trip to Seoul 3 years ago my memory of Korean women wasn't that of working out, but more of going to the spa, aka glorified saunas.

However, that image has been pushed out of my mind. As my flatmate and I were the only ones taking breaks during the class and using the least weights. These women are FIT, they put us both to shame. Being the only caucasians in the class, the rest of the women must of thought "oh these dumb white girls" haha. I will definitely be going back for another class, but it won't be the same one, I do not possess the arm strength..nor do I want to look like a body builder.

So far this week has been a bit slow, worked on Monday but castings have slowed down. So, after the one casting we all had yesterday, as we were driving by this cafe called "Mango Six' my flatmate and I got excited as she has been craving mangos since here arrival. Our manager/driver said oh you want mango six. and of course we said. YES. So being the superstar he is, he took us. We had mango flavoured frozen yogurt with mango bits on top. YUMMM.

Other than that, its another dreary day in Seoul. I am so over this monsoon season business. But, I suppose I can't complain too much as we are fairing much better than London.....

The Beginning

So, I've decided to start writing a blog, something I have done many a time before, but did two posts and gave up. So hopefully this is something I can keep up with. For those who don't know me, my name is Kathleen, I'm Canadian and a model based out of London. This blog will be about my travels, adventures, and activities.

Currently I'm on my second stint in Seoul after having been here 3 years prior. I will tell you this, IT'S GOOD TO BE BACK! I've been here just at week so far but the familiarity from the previous time is coming back. Oh how I've missed the food, kimchee, I love you.

The food is so nice and fresh here, no wonder why it's hard to see someone overweight, those of which can be easily spotted in Britain as well as North America.

This past year has been a whirlwind, Sydney for 4 months, London and Paris fashion weeks, Paris for 2 months and quick trips to London as well as a lovely holiday in Canada visiting my family, I can't believe it had been a year since I had last been there, times flies!

Well, that's it for the first post. Check back sooooon x
